Overlanders looking to boost protection of the more delicate bits on the underside of their Silverado and Sierra pickups can now get the same sliders and skid plates American Expedition Vehicles (aka AEV) supplies the truck makers for the top-spec ZR2 Bison and AT4X AEV Sierra pickups.
The new product bits are essentially the same as the pieces AEV makes for the OEM trucks, so fitment is simple and direct, with AEV saying most of the plates should bolt up within an hour. Fitment will work with model years 2019 and later.
For light-duty Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups, there are four available skid plates, including the AEV IFS Skid Plate, the AEV Transfer Case Skid Plate, the AEV Fuel Tank Skid Plate, and the AEV Rear Differential Slider.

Heavy-duty Silverado HD and Sierra HD models have three options: the IFS Skid Plate, Transfer Case Skid Plate, and Fuel Tank Skid Plate. AEV says the rear differential on those trucks is already up to snuff.
The plating is made from “Hot-Stamped Boron Steel (HSBS),” says AEV, and coated for corrosion resistance. AEV says that drilling will be required for installation on non-ZR2/AT4X trucks, including some early 2023 models. “Rivnuts” are included for use on those models, and AEV offers an alternative pencil brace as a separate kit to help with installation.
Prices range from $50 to $550, depending on which plate you need. Get more information here.
