BMW’s Motorrad motorcycle division will offer 2,100 units of its ultimate R 1250 GS adventure bike in an Ultimate Edition variant, essentially giving prospective buyers a turn-key option that adds almost every option a long-distance adventure rider would want and in a sinister black hue no less.

The bike will also include special swank “Ultimate Edition” badging that also celebrates BMW’s 100 years of producing motorcycles. Essentially, BMW has added six option packages to the GS Ultimate Edition, loading in nearly every tech goodie, performance upgrade, and comfort enhancement to the bike, including a full suite of LED aux lighting, a total of seven Pro ride modes, quick shifter, bag racks, lightweight Akrapovic exhaust, a larger windscreen, cruise control, electronically controlled suspension, heated grips, crash bars (in black), black wheels and more.

The Ultimate Edition GS machines will also be slathered in some “Option 719” bits, which is BMW’s selection of “special order” precision milled trim bits like gas cap trims, valve covers, and more. Completed bikes should arrive essentially ready for an epic adventure once buyers figure out which set of bags to add and any other accessories BMW forgot to include.

While a base R 1250 GS runs just under $21,000, the Ultimate Edition pencils out to about $29,500, but again, that’s before any panniers are added in, which can tack on another $1,000 or more depending on size, style, and type. BMW says that cost is offset by the Ultimate’s options package deal that would cost over $2,000 more if added individually through the options and upgrade configurator.

It could also be the last hurrah for the R 1250 GS. Numerous outlets have reported that BMW is prepping a new top-tier adventure bike, likely the R 1300 GS, which will add a bit more power and modernization to the popular off-road capable two-wheeler. Stay tuned.
