Elevate Your Expertise at Overland Expo West

Before we reveal what’s in store for the 2024 Overland Expo Educational Programming Series, we would like to thank the folks who attended our events in 2023 and took the time to submit feedback about our programming, either via the app for specific classes they attended or via the post-event surveys. The information, opinions, and ideas we receive from you are crucial to informing the decisions we make in shaping the next year of overland education at our events. And thanks to you, we have a super exciting year lined up!

As the overland industry grows, so does the community, which means there are ever-expanding opportunities for us to bring new types of programming to our shows to educate and entertain our new audience, along with our returning audience. And the beauty of being the foremost overland series in the country is that our events are destinations for overland travelers from all over the world who are passing through and stopping for a few days to share the most fascinating stories with our attendees.

Educational Opportunities at Overland Expo West

Why We Roam: Hourless Life

To name a few, we look forward to welcoming:

  • Dutch travelers Clary and Robert Van Den Hoven, aka Double Dutch World Safari, have traveled an astounding 437,000 miles around the world in 4×4 expedition vehicles in the past 19 years.
  • The Hourless Life Family, Brittany, Eric, and little Caspian, will pause their journey through South America to give us an update on their journey down the Panamerican Highway thus far.
  • Travis and Chantil of viajarMOTO have been traveling around the world since 2020 on their motorcycles.
  • UK-based author, podcast host and storied overland rider, Sam Manicom, will grace us with his humor and wisdom gained throughout the many miles he has ridden around the world.

Keep an eye on the Compass and our Overland Expo Newsletter to learn more about the folks above (and others) before we all come together in Flagstaff in May.

During the 2024 Overland Expo Programming Series, we will offer classes that our attendees have come to expect and tell us they continue to highly value: backcountry cooking classes, first aid training, bushcraft skills tutorials, and intro to advanced-level classes on the technology and software that many overlanders rely on to get safely from here to there and everywhere in-between.

In addition, we will be bolstering our programming for kids through fun collaborations with the Overland Expo Foundation, TreadLightly!, and The Grand Canyon Wolf Recovery Project. As always, we will feature classes and activities for kids – taught and led by kids.

After pouring through the reviews and class audits from 2023, we are scheduling MORE of what you clearly wanted to see, including classes on GMRS radios, how to stay connected as a digital nomad, and stories from overland travelers.

In response to the overwhelmingly popular 2023 Creator Area and the associated Content Creator Panel discussions we held last year, we are adding a new multi-purpose area called the Storytelling Pavilion. This space will include a teaching area tent that will host education on topics related to content creation, such as photography clinics with incredibly talented photographers, “how to” classes on everything from contract negotiation and legal terms involved with making money as a content creator, and stories from folks who are traveling around the country and around the world. In addition, a select group of content creators will be camped with their rigs around this space, so if you’re looking to chat with or get an in-person tour of the rig of an overlander you’ve been following for a while, this will be your chance. We are extremely excited about this new area and can’t wait to share the details in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for more information about our featured speakers and instructors at Overland Expo WEST 2024, and don’t be shy if you have thoughts and ideas about classes you would like to see offered at an Overland Expo this year. And please, keep those reviews and feedback forms coming!

Until then, happy travels!
